2-day Fundamentals
Wildlife Tracking
Bay Area, CA
Fundamentals This 2-day Course teaches the fundamental skills required for the core study of Wildlife Tracking. Instructors from the Trackers Rangers Guild begin with the art of seeing and interpreting wildlife sign. We cover everything form identification, gait analysis and aging. We also give you the tools to discern and map the ecological relationships of the animals and their habitat. At Trackers we feel it is vital that all this goes beyond simple identification of tracks in sand or snow, addressing throughout the entire workshop what is actually necessary to follow the individual animal through any terrain.
The Art of Seeing
Tracking begins on the edge of where knowledge and awareness come together. We quickly build the foundation of key skills such as track identification and gait interpretation. Who was this animal? Were they moving fast or slow? When did they pass by? We also work to develop a greater scope of awareness, attuning the senses to delve deeply into the mysteries of nature.
Ecological Relationships
No animal is an island. They live their lives completely interdependent to the wild around them. These stories can be some of the most engaging aspects of tracking. Where do the deer leave their fawns while they feed on the willow? How many bear share this apple tree and where do their territories overlap? Are coyotes absent because the cougar is now in the area?
Finding the Animal
To often tracking becomes only an academic or philosophical pursuit. Unfortunately this can stand in the way of a tracker developing the most useful skill of trailing. The Trackers Rangers Guild takes you beyond simple identification. We require you know the animal as well as you would a brother or a sister. We insist you train to actually find the animal who's trail you walk.
